The PAL+ IPAF 3A & 3B Training Course is an advanced programme for powered access operators who already hold a valid IPAF PAL Card. This course builds on standard operator training, testing delegates in more complex, challenging work environments to prove they can use MEWPs safely and effectively in high-risk conditions.
On completion, successful candidates will have the “+” qualification added to their IPAF PAL Card, showing employers and site managers they are competent to operate MEWPs under more demanding conditions. This qualification has been a compulsory requirement for netters and steel erectors in the UK Construction Group since October 2013.
The course combines a short theory refresher with intensive practical training and assessment. Delegates will cover:
Compact theory session on legislation and safety responsibilities
Pre-use inspections and machine checks
Advanced practical training for MEWPs in categories 3A (mobile vertical) and 3B (mobile boom)
Challenging scenarios designed to test advanced operator skills
Hazard recognition and risk management in difficult work environments
Written and practical tests to demonstrate safe, competent operation
Proves competence in challenging or high-risk MEWP operations
Meets compulsory requirements for certain construction roles
Enhances employability and career prospects in the powered access industry
Provides peace of mind for employers and contractors managing work at height
Builds on standard IPAF training with advanced, practical skill testing
On successful completion, delegates will receive:
An updated IPAF PAL Card with the PAL+ endorsement
Recognition across the UK and internationally as proof of advanced MEWP competence
Certification accessible via the IPAF ePAL app (digital PAL Card, logbook, and safety resources)
Option to request a physical PAL Card and paper certificate (additional fee applies)
Proves competence in challenging or high-risk MEWP operations
Meets compulsory requirements for certain construction roles
Enhances employability and career prospects in the powered access industry

Upon successful completion of the theory test, practical test and interview, operators will have the relevant categories added to their PAL card.
