Is IOSH Managing Safely a legal requirement?

How long does the course take? 

The course typically takes 4 full days to complete. It can also be delivered flexibly over multiple sessions, 2 days per week over two weeks, depending on your chosen delivery format (in-person, on-site, or online). 

Do I need any prior experience to take this course? 
 

No prior health and safety knowledge is required. The course is designed for first-time managers, supervisors, or anyone with health and safety responsibilities, regardless of their background. 

What qualification will I receive? 
 

Upon successful completion, delegates will receive an IOSH Managing Safely certificate, which is valid for life. However, regular refresher training is recommended to stay up-to-date with best practices. 

How is the course assessed? 
 

Assessment includes a multiple-choice exam and a practical risk assessment project based on your own workplace. Our trainers will fully prepare you for both parts. 

Is there an expiry date on the certificate? 
 

While the certificate does not expire, IOSH recommends taking a refresher course every 3–5 years to maintain current knowledge and remain compliant with evolving standards.
